Mama and Miss Floppy have their new home!

Mama is heart worm free!! She is going to be OK. There is some damage to the heart from the heart worms, but with a little weight loss and spending hot days indoors, she should have a long healthy life.
She never really seemed to want to be adopted out, hiding every time she saw the camera come out or hanging her head down so no good photo could be taken.

Although there was interest in Miss Floppy, once they learned about her heart condition, I never heard back from a lot of them. She seems healthy and happy. You would never know by her playfulness that she has a hole in her heart.

So now the story ends with the Foster Mom becoming the forever home for these two with broken hearts. But we have all moved to a new home still within the same neighborhood and now they have their very own backyard. (Which they really seem to love)

They also like to come inside and lay on the cool ceramic tile, although if I turn my back, Mama jumps up on the couch. Miss Floppy is intrigued by one of my cats "Stormie", she was also a rescue. She, I believe is cross eyed or blind in one eye and so has a hard time judging distance and height. Maybe that is why she doesn't seem afraid of Miss Floppy. But they appear to have formed a playful friendship.

Stormie & Floppy

They spend their days inside with me and their evening, nights and morning playing in the backyard with each other or the neighbor dog, Gracie. They really like Gracie because she will pass her toys through the fence for them to play with. Unfortunately, she rarely gets them back.
Gracie

In the end everyone that I know of has a good, loving forever home with the exception of the first one that was adopted out. I called him "Big Brother". He was a largest of them all and the first one to make friends with me and anyone else that would come visit. He would come into the garage and eat when the others would run when I got too close. He was the first one to allow me to pet him and the first one to take treats from my hand. When they first came to live in the pin, he would come up and lay his head in my lap for attention. He was so very sweet. But the woman that adopted him decided to take all of her dogs to the SPCA, even though I had told her to bring him back to me. I do hope and pray that he did find a good loving home.

"Big Brother"

Papa passed away in his sleep, March of this year. He was much older than we thought and when the family took him in for heart worm treatments, the vet did not feel that he would survive them. He really was happy with his family and they loved him very much and were heart broken when he passed. They said he could never be replaced and was very special to them.

Papa
I wrote a book about their story. If anyone is interested in viewing it, I will have to email the link. It is at My Publisher.com.

I close with some videos of Mama and Miss Floppy playing in their new, forever home.

It's been a long, interesting, rewarding journey. This family that came from Hurricane Ike. How Mama and Papa took care of, protected and provided for 6 pups out in the woods for 5 months is miraculous. There were bobcats and coyotes, not to mention the stories around about them being wolves! People feared them but were in awe of them from a distance. There were some who wanted to shoot them. The local Humane Society said they could not be domesticated and would have to be put down. They have persevered!

Miss Floppy and Momma need homes

Momma was returned to me the day after Sissy went to her new home. The family feared that she was having a bad reaction to the heart worm treatments and would not survive. They did not want to have her pass away around the children, so they returned her to me. She has since been doing fine. I took her in for the remaining treatments and she is doing well. She is currently on day 25 of the 30 days. We will not know how successful the adulticide treatment was for 6 months.

Miss Floppy is also waiting for a new home. There have been 2 ladies interested. She is very playful and loves to run. She is getting better at walking on the leash, but still pulls when she wants to go somewhere. She is now indoor trained, since she has been inside with Momma during the heart worm treatment period. She is a sweet, gentle, playful girl. I know she misses being out in the pin to run and play, but she does not like being alone and would only howl if out there alone.

Sissy has a new home

Sissy was adopted about 1 1/2 months ago. She lives about 45 minutes from here. She has a new friend, his name is Tana and he is from Alaska! She gets to go jogging every morning and I believe they bring them inside each evening for treats. Just last weekend she went to the beach for the first time. They told me that she was afraid of the waves!

I miss her very much and still cry from time to time. I did not realize how attached to her I had gotten. I have been out 2 times to visit and check up on her progress.

Here are some photos from the day I delivered her to her new home.

I have requested more photos and will post them as soon a I receive them.

Two Sisters Still Looking for Homes

Miss Floppy (left) & Sissy (right)
Sitting for treats!
Sissy and Miss Floppy are still looking for forever homes.  They are such good girls, about 16 months old. We believe they are a malamute/shepherd mix. They stand approximately 26" at the shoulder. Both girls are spayed, heart worm free and currents on all vaccinations. In addition, they are on a 30 day regiment of Heartgard Plus and K-9 Advantix.

Miss Floppy
Miss Floppy is sweet and gentle in nature and loves to play. She would really like to have a playmate.  A little shy at first, but she is also curious and will come up to check you out. She is always the one that instigates play. In addition, she enjoys playing in water. She will fish out their toys when I place them in the pool and when I put ice in their water, she will come up, plunge her nose in the water and stir the ice around. Miss Floppy was born with a small hole in her heart which causes a heart mummer, however it does not require any medication. The specialist only recommended that she be seen by a vet every 6 months so that the mummer can be monitored.  She is leash trained but will pull when she wants to go some where. She rides in a vehicle pretty good. She has always been outside, although I am begining to bring them inside, she will need to be trained for indoor living. She weighs between 70-75 lbs, is heart worm free, spayed and current on all vaccinations.

Miss Floppy
Sissy
Sissy is a very shy girl. I named her Sissy because she is afraid of any thing and any one she is not familiar with. She will bark, but has never gotten vicious or mean. She just gets really nervous and will keep a good distance between herself and strangers. When out for her walks, when a neighbor comes out, she will sit refusing to go by a stranger. Then when she does decide to walk by, it will be quickly. She is good and well behaved. She will sit when I tell her and come when I call and whistle. She loves attention and will roll onto her back for me to pet her. She also enjoys being brushed and will push Miss Floppy out of the way so that she can be brushed first. She also loves to go for her walks and gets excited when she sees me comming out with the leash. Sissy will require several visits so that she can become familar with you and trust you, before she goes to her new home. She weighs 85 lbs +. She is spayed, heart worm free and current on all vaccinations.

Momma has found a good, forever loving home. In addition, she has started her heart worm treatments and has been doing well. I will be posting photos as soon as I receive them.

Still Need Homes for Three

I still have three girls looking for forever homes! They would love to have a yard to run around in and a family that will lavish love and attention on them. They all enjoy going for walks and are very playful. They are all current on their vaccinations and have all been spayed. I keep them on Iverheart Max or Heartgaurd Plus and K-9 Advantix every 30 days.

In this photo, Miss Floppy and Sissy are sitting for treats. Momma is in the background, she is camera shy.

Momma is a sweet and gentle girl, approximately 2 - 3 years old. She is leash trained and loves to go on long walks. She is very playful. She weighs 80 lbs and has a thick coat. She was a good mom to all of the pups, keeping them safe while living out in the woods. She has been indoor trained and rides in a car real good. She is an escape artist, so precautions will need to be taken.

Sissy is a shy girl. She definitely earned the name "Sissy" She is afraid of things she is unfamiliar with, that includes people. She will shy away and bark, but never gets mean or growls. Like the other members of her family, she is playful and enjoys balls. She is also a digger and digs holes to lay in. She loves attention and pushes the others out of the way so she can get brushed first. She is 1 yr old, weighs 75 lbs. She walks on a leash, but will pull. She has ridden in a car several times without any problem. She has always been outside, so will need to be trained to live indoors. Anyone interested in adopting her should come to visit several times to allow her to become familiar with them before taking her home.

Miss Floppy, like her mom, is a sweet gentle girl. She really loves to play and is usually the instigator of play. She will nip at me when I go into the pen to get me to play with her. She will be happiest if she has a playmate. She loves water. I have a small pool that I leave out in the pen and will put all of their toys in the pool. Miss Floppy is always the one that fishes them out. I take ice out to them on hot days and place it in their water and she will come up, plunge her nose into the water and stir the ice around. She will sometimes fish out a piece of ice, but it is usually Sissy that will eat it. Miss Floppy was born with a small hole in her heart, it does not require medication or surgery. However, she should be seen by a vet at least every 6 months so that they can monitor the mummer to ensure it is not getting worse. She is 1 yr old, weighs 70 lbs. Walks on a leash and has taken several trips in a car with no problem. She has always been outside and will need to be trained to live indoors.
